Warden's Message
I am extremely pleased to write a few words of support on behalf of this generous, innovative, and valuable project aimed at benefiting S. Thomas’ College (STC). We are very grateful to the initiators of this project, particularly Dr. Vijitha Weerasinghe, and all those who ’rallied round the college flag’ from all four corners of the globe. This project comes at a very opportune time, and is a wonderful example of harnessing technology for worthy causes. STC is now embarked on building further on the solid foundations of excellence in academic and extra curricular activity. As a non-profit, Anglican school committed to educating the youth of Sri Lanka—no matter the caste, creed, linguistic and ethnic affiliation—we believe that we can achieve our objectives by keeping the cost of fees affordable for as many people as possible. At the same time, college spends a lot of time, money, and energy maintaining aging buildings, which are in fact national treasures. This coupled with the provision of services, such as access to over 20 sports and 50 clubs and societies, means that we are dependent to a great extent on our old boys and well wishers to help us achieve our objectives and financial obligations. The future of our country—in many ways a new future—is in our hands, and STC will continue to play a critical role in shaping that future. Again, I thank all our old boys in Sri Lanka and from around the world, who collectively drive our programs and embellish our efforts with worthy projects such as this one. We deeply appreciate the kindness of those who will utilize this website to donate whatever they wish to, even the tiniest penny, because this entire project has blossomed from a simple thought to become something that holds great potential.
